Indigenous Lenca Pottery– Traditional Christmas Nativity

Indigenous Lenca Pottery– Traditional Christmas Nativity

      $118.00
      Code: MITA036
      Size: 9” x 9 ¾” (23 x 25cms)

Christmas Nativity sets are very collectible and are a lovely cultural registry of given regions around the world where venerable Catholic communities are to be found – Central America is certainly no exception and a plethora of nativity styles abound in our region.
The native Lenca of the highlands of south central Honduras traditionally make two-tone (usually black and cream, sometimes black and terracotta) pit fired pottery. Their version of the Christmas Nativity is very original and one could even argue possesses an almost contemporary look.
