Pre-Columbian Pottery (replica), Gran Nicoya Archeological Region : Female effigy pot
$490.00
Code: PCCR039
Size: 13" diameter x 16”tall (33 x 41 cms)
This effigy pot is a homage to a noble woman of the community. It has been well documented how these early Nicoya native societies expressed through the arts the evidence of the importance of certain elite women who evidently wielded remarkable power. The sheer abundance of elite female effigy figures (with body markings, ear spools and other accoutrements showing noble stature) is evidence of the role of females in this civilization. Such vessels would have contained either cacao, or maize 'chicha' - all important beverages for this culture. Gran Nicoya Archeological Region (Nicoya Peninsula and Guanacaste Province, Costa Rica), 1300-European contact
All of the pre-European reproduction pieces in the Namu collection are faithful replicas of such authentic objects (in gold, jade, pottery and stone) seen in the exhibition halls of Costa Rica's world class national museums in San Jose. This 'effigy pot' is part of the Gran Nicoya archeological region (that spans from Orotina, Nicoya Peninsula, Guanacaste Costa Rica up to Masaya, Nicaragua).
